Artist Date to NCMA

I'm working through the second week of The Artist's Way, and today was my second Artist Date.  What is an artist date?  It's when you take yourself somewhere or do something to fill up your artist cup.  You could share it with someone else but in the beginning she suggests it's just for you.  You can go to a concert, for brisk walk, stroll through a garden, enjoy a culinary delight, amble through a museum, attend a play, the ballet, the Symphony, opera anything potentially could be an artist date.

I've always wanted to go to the North Carolina Museum of art and have put it off for many years. I'm not sure even why.  They have two buildings, gardens, a cafe, a gift shop and an outdoor concert stage.  Today was the day, I ran to the farmers market for breakfast, and coffee, walked the dog and headed to Raleigh.  I was delighted by what I found.  The first building I toured housed the temporary exhibits, and then I made my way over to the permanent collection.

I've decided I know exactly what I like when it comes to art, anything that looks impressionistic, mixed media (collage type art on canvas), sculpture, and photography.  Every now and then something in between will catch my eye but these are the things I'm mainly drawn to.  My favorite museum growing up was the Toledo Museum of Art.  They are exquisite!  If you are near Toledo, Oh check out the Museum, you won't be disappointed.   There main collection is fantastic and they bring in great traveling exhibitions.  This Museum reminded me to the Toledo Museum of art in its scale and class.

This little jaunt was a delight!  I felt invigorated, enlivened and it was a really nice way to full up my artists cup.  What have you done recently to fill up your artist cup?
