It's Wise Women Wednesday, each week I interview a woman that I believe is inspiring, living abundantly and following her passions. These are all women who live a life of abundance and bring creativity into the world.
Q. Who are you? What is your background?
A. I’m a hippie, happy, hypnotist who loves to create, get messy, and add a little sunshine to this planet. I’m single, ambitious, and have a huge passion for learning and trying new things. I was born in Greensboro, NC and after living in ½ a dozen other locations have settled back to where it all began. I’m the middle of 3 girls and have always been considered the odd (creative) man out. I gave the executive route a chance working at companies like Disney, NASCAR, and Hearst Magazine but the entrepreneurial dream offered what no desk job could give me - a chance to chase my passions! I have a BA in Marketing from UNCC and love to be involved in our Greensboro community through The Chamber, Triad ToastMasters, and The Junior League.
Q. What is your work?
A. I’m founder and owner of Modern Day Hypnosis, where I offer services like mind coaching, hypnotherapy, guided meditation, and Reiki. I help people to unconsciously change the mental dialect of their minds so that they can find it simple and easy to tackle goals, build confidence, and hone their unique and special skills. I refer to myself as a Consulting Hypnotist and most of my works tends to prioritize around ego strengthening and hope coaching. Sort of what I do is to help people see things in a new perspective which in turns builds decisiveness and then it’s just about steering them in the right direction.
Q. What is one project you are excited to be working on right now?
A. I’m always excited about my ongoing evolution and my active participation in moving that along. J Of the 20+ ambitious tasks I’ve outlined to happen in 2018, I think my initiative to open a community composting non-profit is arguably the most aggressive. I’ve already been working with Collab Downtown to shape this idea into a running business and March 21st I’ll pitch my plan to investors and community members so that we can make Greensboro just a little green-er. Another exciting project that I just can’t help to share has just come about in the few days that I’m answering this profile for Wise Women Wednesdays! Jessika & Veronika Oslen are opening Sonder Mind & Body in Spring 2018 and I’m joining their team to offer my hypnotherapy and biofeedback services at their juice, flotation, and sauna bar! I’m very excited about this upcoming collaboration since it will offer so many additional quality services for my clients like massage, yoga, and physical therapy.
Q. What is one thing you've done recently that's scared you and took courage, but you're glad you did?
A. Recently I’ve begun efforts to join this century and participate in social media. I’ve started blogging, online dating, and occasionally posting to Facebook and Instagram. It’s not only that the technology eludes me; a clever, witty, sarcastic personality like mine is something more appreciated in the flesh. Expressing yourself in a way that makes you proud takes a high learning curve - especially in a static medium like the internet. I’d say I’m half-way there ;)
Q. What is the work you most want to be doing and are you doing it? If not, why not? What's stopping you?
A. I wised up pretty quick and only gave corporate America a few years before diving head first down this entrepreneurial rabbit hole. I’ve always had a passion for learning, helping people, being creative, and being ambitious. And I can honestly say I’m doing all of that and more than I ever could have thought possible! It’s been scary and fun the entire time but I love it and couldn’t see myself doing any other thing.
Q. What would you tell your high school or college self?
A. Go girl, you are doing it! And I’m so proud of you :). Don’t ever give up - those telling you how it’s supposed to be just can’t see how it can be - you are forging a path for them.
Q. What's one piece of advice or motto you love and use in your daily life that you would like to share with my sweet readers?
A. Have fun, be silly, and lead with your heart! It’s smarter than your brain could ever be.
Q. What keeps you creating when you don't feel like it?
A. Tinkering and making a mess is quite therapeutic for me. I try not to put pressures on myself for having to create something - usually, when I have time, I’m just finishing up projects from earlier and new things and idea evolve. My creativity is like my zen - never ending, never beginning. Anytime a slump happens though some fresh air, warm tea, and sunshine always do the trick. Close seconds would be a walk outside or jamming and dancing to some tunes like hip hop, rock, or even classical.
Q. Anything else you'd like to share?
A. If you asked a child to act ‘like an adult’ for a skit in a play or something, they would likely take on an expression of sullen, somber seriousness. If I have any advice it’s to not be so serious! Life is a play - play hard! Have fun, be silly, mess up, get messy. Don’t worry about getting outside the lines - to each their own….just own it!
Q. What's your favorite yoga pose?
A. Happy Baby! Never feels appropriate (in group) - Always fun anytime!
Q. How do you live a life of abundance?
A. I find happiness in the littlest of things - this trains and re-enforces in my mind that the littlest of things are enough and always available to everyone. I’m happy each time I see the sun, each time I hear a bird chirp, each breeze - even the cold ones - puts a smile on my face because it reminds me there is just so much - of all those tiny joys! There is an UNLIMITED ABUNDANT supply of light, laughter, and bliss. More than enough for everyone, always!
