Wise Women Wednesday: Laura Mensch

It's Wise Women Wednesday, each week I interview a woman that I believe is inspiring, living abundantly and following her passions.  These are all women who live a life of abundance and bring creativity into the world.

Q. Who are you? What is your background?
A. Laura Mensch
I am a visually creative person.
My family is from Lynchburg & Altavista Va but I grew up in the mountains of West Virginia just outside of Charleston.  That is where my love of the outdoors grew.  I graduated from University of Charleston where Istudied Art and Interior Design and met my husband.  We moved to Greensboro in 97 and now I consider Greensboro my home.  This is where my children were born and where they are growing up.

Q. What is your work?
A. I am an interior designer, owner of Vivid Interiors with my business partner & friendGina Hicks.

Q. What is one project you are excited to be working on right now?
I am excited by the prospect of participating in the upcoming Julian Price Designer Show House.  We toured the house a couple of weeks ago and I can't stop thinking about it!   It is such an amazing house and Gina & I would love to be part of it's transformation.  So fingers crossed that not only we get a room but hopefully our first choice!

Q. What is one thing you've done recently that's scared you and took courage, but you're glad you did?
A. That would definitely be starting our own business! Deciding to open our studio/ shop down town was a leap of faith.  I am so proud that Vivid is part of the South End community!  We jumped and haven't looked back!

Q. What is the work you most want to be doing and are you doing it? If not why not what's stopping you?
A. I love my job! I love the people I work with and I love the challenges that it takes to create a successful business. I wouldn't trade it for the world.  I love being an Interior designer - I love creating beautiful rooms for our clients to live. We create a back drop for their memories, and a place to feel inspired, happy and at home.

Q. What would you tell your high school or college self?
A. Do not be afraid to go after what you want, follow you instincts and keep working hard! You will be ok.

Q.  What's one piece of advice or motto you love and use in your daily life that you would like to share with my sweet readers?
A. My favorite quote is from Elsie de Wolfe " I believe in optimism and plenty of white paint." I also love the saying"Its better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission."

Q. What keeps you creating when you don't feel like it?
A. Taking a break! Going outside and stepping away for a moment always helps me reconnect and gets my creative juices flowing.  A glass of whine in the evening doesn't hurt either.

Q. Anything else you'd like to share with my sweet readers?
A. I have two amazing children and one amazing& (patient)  husband!

Q. What's your favorite yoga pose?
A. Oh geez. Is there a favorite? My typical yoga pose is the sore sweaty woman.

Q. How do you live a life of abundance?
A. I work hard, I love my family and friends, I love to read, paint ,be outdoors & just be with my family and friends.  I put myself out to the public, to my family and close friends as myself and only myself. I try things, I experimentand experience but I stay true to myself and the people I love.
