Face to Face Strategic Planning

Have you ever been a part of a strategic planning session?  If not let me tell you they are very very difficult day long-2 day long events. Face to Face just had it's first strategic planning session.  Frankly none of us really wanted to spend a beautiful Saturday inside a conference room for 9 hours working.  However, I have to say it was most likely one of the very best things we could have done for Face to Face and the longevity of the organization.

I want nothing more than for Face to Face to get our act together and put on great programing for all of you.  I want us to create a space for you to meet new interesting people.  To get to know each other for your opinions and your ideas.  I want you to have fun and do something maybe a little bit outside your comfort zone.

The only way we are going to be able to provide you with that kind of programing is if we have a plan!  So we are developing our plan and getting down to some serious business.

Do you have any Crazy Ice breaker Ideas?  Do you want to get more involved in Greensboro, but maybe don't know how?  Is there something missing from your social life?

Great Big Thank you to our leadership Greensboro Team that put this strategic planning session together!  They were amazing.  Without them I don't think any of us would have voluntarily spent 9 hours on a Saturday in a conference room brain storming.  We love you all and want to give you youngish folks awesome programing, but man it's hard to give up a saturday.  Ultimately this was completely worth it and extraordinarily helpful, useful and wonderful.  Leadership Greensboro worked so hard putting yesterday together and we are so grateful to have their help and guidance.  I hope that they didn't find us too crazy or to full of ourselves (we can be rather full of ourselves at times).  Our leadership Greensboro team is the best!

Aaahhhh, The face to face hat.

This hat might be my favorite.

What do you do that makes you feel like you are on the right track to life?  What do you do that makes you feel like life has some sort of meaning?  For me, it's Face to Face.  Face to Face doesn't pay any bills, it sucks lots of my time, sometimes it sucks money, it keeps me from getting enough sleep and it's jacked up my social net work, which can be a good thing or a bad thing.  To me the funny thing is that none of those things matter because even though I might get less sleep, I now have some very very close friends In Greensboro people I consider family.  It may not pay any bills, but I get to have lots of exciting conversations that make me think.  And a lot of times we throw back some beers while we are at it.  Who said running a non-profit couldn't be fun?  And maybe, just maybe we are making Greensboro a better place to live while we are at it.

What are you so  very passionate about that you will loose sleep over?  Or  what do you love so much that you will let other pieces of your life fall apart so that you can spend another hour or day working on that thing?  I hope that you have something like that in your life.  I hope that you have something that makes you so excited you can't wait to get out of bed.   I'm really lucky to have many things that interest me and keep me going, but right now above all, I believe it's Face to Face that makes my wheels turn.

The Soapbox Salon: Lee Walton's Search for the Most Average Bowlers

An Evening of Free Bowling and Social Practice

Thursday, February 25, 2010

7:30pm - 10:00pm

AMF All Star Lanes

910 South Holden Road

Artist and professor Lee Walton helps us to explore the art of Social Practice, a new Californian art movement that creates art far away from the four walls of museums and galleries and makes it happen in and around us. So join us for an evening of FREE bowling as we search for the most average bowlers. Afterward Lee will give a talk helping us make sense of this new art form and how we can apply it in our everyday lives, perhaps transforming the "mundanery" of everyday life into collective, meaningful happenings in the community.

Come check us out!  I'd love to see what you think.  And don't worry, I'll be telling you more about this thing I love, this crazy thing called face to face.  I hope that you'll love us as much as I do.
