60 and still works

My mom has a coffee mug that says "65 and it still works".

She's had it for almost 30 years, maybe more.  I've never been entirely sure what it meant, but my sister and I certainly laughed when we were home this weekend drinking coffee out of it, about to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday.  We told her she's not to much further off!

As you can see I was in OH this past weekend.  I drove 9 and a half hours home to throw my mom a sit down dinner party for her and 15 of her closest friends.  Just a few family members and people that have known her almost her whole life were there.

It was a splendid evening!  I think for the most part it went really well.  I made a broccoli salad, carrot ginger soup over rice noodles and avocado chocolate mouse for desert.

I'll be posting more later on all of the preparation it took to pull this off, but really it was a magical evening and I was so glad that I could give my mom this gift.

I'm lucky to have such an amazing mother!  Really blessed and I'm so happy to have been able to share the weekend with her.

My Hat Goes off to you Mom, I love you.

Adventures With Aunt Gina!

Do you have a special Aunt?

Someone absolutely amazing? Maybe you are related by blood, maybe someone you lovingly call an aunt, but not an aunt by blood??  Well, My Aunt Gina is Spectacular, my favorite Aunt by blood (I can say that with out hurting feelings because she is my only blood aunt :))!

We talk a lot early on saturday and sunday mornings.  I'm an early riser, and I don't just mean early, I mean EARLY!  I know that if it's 4:30am on a saturday or sunday I can call my Aunt Gina and she will happily pick up the phone and talk to me.  She rises as early as I do, we'll chat for hours at a time.  It's fantastic

My Beautiful Aunt Gina and Me

Aunt Gina and I were both in Mexico and we decided that while we were there we would take a day trip.  Mayan Adventures Day Trip! My Cousin David and his Beautiful wife Angela had done this day trip the day before , and they highly recommended it.

Gina and had no Idea what an amazing time we would have.  It started by visiting the Mayan Ruins.

IMG_2030

Each level of the ruin took them about 7 years to complete.  A full one of these babies takes 54 years to complete.  The average age of a mayan was 54 years.  These would take a lifetime to build...  Can you imagine?

The Mayan's play this odd game, and the winner had to do  a little blood letting.  In some cultures they killed the winner of the ball game, but not in the Mayan culture.  The Mayans were more "civilized", they just did a blood brother thing.

Adventure day with my aunt was pretty darn cool.  After we looked at some of the ruins we rented bikes to ride down to the big one!

The above picture is totally not the most flatering of me, but whatever... life is short and this pic is an example of the care free wonderfulness (no that's not a word, but I'm using it) of the day so I'm gonna give you the good, the bad and the ugly.  Don't worry, you'll see, there are some uglies of me coming up...

Ok, it's way blurry, but I thought maybe it would make you feel like you were there on the bike with me :)

And Yes, it's blurry, but you try taking a picture while you're on a moving bike :)

Maybe the picture doesn't make this look that big, but I assure you it is, it is very very big and quite the hike up!

After the ruins we went to a Mayan house hold.  Where there were lots of different kinds of animals.

Ok, so I'm really not sure what this guy is.  I asked if it was a wart hog and I was told "no".  He gave me a name, but it was in spanish and so I'll call him the mystery Animal.

The sad part of this day is that our craziest most fun adventures I don't have pictures of.  We did a zip cord over alligator infested waters, hiked through the jungle, experienced a Mayan ritual, repelled into a cave of water, swam around and then climbed up a rope latter to get out.  Gina went canoeing and I swam in an alligator lake :)  Then we had a delicious Mayan lunch!!!  OMG it was such a yummy meal!

All in all it was simply a magical day.  I hope that are lucky enough to have an Aunt as cool as I do.  Someone so special you're life wouldn't be the same without them.  I know I'm very very lucky!

Dogie Mama

Happy Friday Everyone! I'm in a jovial mood today, since I'm not at work (not to say I wouldn't be in a jovial mood at work if I were there).  I got a good night sleep last night and I'm ready for this most beautiful day.  There are many many things on my to do list today and I love to check things off of the to do list so that is perfect!

Does face book ever make you miss people?  It happens daily for me.  I miss old friends that face book allows me to follow, I miss my brother, my sister, my mother my father.  Yes, my whole family minus my mother are all on face book.  Funny how social media can bring people together.  We are all spread out, I have friends in all four corners of the US and even friends on different continents.  Social media makes the world seem oh so small and oh so big at the same time.

I have lots and lots of people here that I consider family...

You see, for me, family has to be bigger than blood.  Or else I need to move back to OH.

But the problem is, I really miss my sister and brother... You know the kind that are connected by blood...

So for now, my closest family member is Max!   Yes, you know it, I'm a Dogie Mama!

Max is going to go stay with my parents (his grandparents) at the end of April.  He will be staying with them for three whole weeks.  Is it silly for me to say I'm not looking forward to those three weeks?  It will be the longest Max and I have ever been apart from each other!  Three weeks is a long time.  I'm afraid he will like my parents better than me.  After all, they are home more, much much more.  My dad is really good with animals and my mom will spoil the  hell out of him.  Not to mention they have a huge back yard where he can run all around.  What if he doesn't want to come with me??  What if he likes them better than he likes me?  Irrational fears I know, but they are still there.  Have you ever left your child or pet with their grandparents for a an extended stay?  did you worry about them the whole time?  Why am I worried?  My parents raised me just fine,I'm sure he will be ok, and enjoy it for that matter, but still.  I'm worried.  More worried that he won't want to come back to GSO.
