Fiction:

  1. The Salt Path by Raynor Winn: I liked this. It did not tie things up in a bow. It didn’t feel like there was a resolution in the end but I did like the story.

  2. Beartown by Fredrick Backman: This was great AND it is very dark and very heavy. It deals rape, and still it is worth the read.

  3. How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang

  4. A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult

  5. Candy House By Jennifer Egan: This book was the second one in a series of two. The first one is A Visit From The Goon Squad. I really enjoyed these books. They give you a lot of food for thought.

  6. Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin I really enjoyed this book. It was a beautiful story of friendship.

  7. The Phoenix Pencil Company by Allison King

  8. Theo of Golden by Allen Levi: I liked this one. When I shared that in my friday email someone gave some fair critisms of the book about how the female characters were stereotypical and flat and complied with a specific norm and the book was a bit predictable. All of that was fair. But in a world where there is so much bad happening in our reality to be reminded of someone trying to do things for the sake of good was really refreshing.

  9. The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by KiranDesai

  10. The Amalfi Curse by Sarah Penner: This book is a great fictional escape!

  11. Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: This was a book that my book club wanted to read because the author is coming to speak in Greensboro. I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but I ended up loving it.

  12. The Last Beekeeper by Julie Carrick Dalton: I really liked this book. I didn’t think I was going to like it but I really fell in love with the characters. There were a few predictable things happening in the plotline but it didn’t make me like it less.

  13. Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter: I’m loving this book. It’s just a good easy read.

  14. The London Seance Society by Sarah Penner: I really like Sarah Penner’s work in general. This book was ok. I didn’t love it like I loved her other books. This one was I’d say just ok.

Historical Fiction:

Fantasy:

Horror/Thriller/Mystery:

  1. Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie: This was my first agatha Christie mystery and I liked it. The beginning was tough to get into and it was hard to keep all of the details straight but over all I liked it.

Memoir:

  1. Awake By Jen Hatmaker

  2. You With The Sad Eyes by Christina Applegate: I really enjoyed this memoir. I think Christina Applegate is an incredible actress and I liked getting her take on her life. I did listen to this one and a weird thing was in the more emotionally charged parts she would have clips that sounded emotional but they didn’t sound real. I couldn’t tell if she was really getting choked up or if she was trying to act it and it took me out of what she was saying instead of letting me absorb what she was saying. It was jarring. But over all I loved the book.

  3. Strangers a Memoir of Marriage by Belle Burden: I really liked this book because Belle wasn’t writing from a bitter place. She was writing honestly about the double standard of what happens to women and men in divorce. I think this is really worth the read for anyone who likes memoirs.
